Take it away early!  The process was easy, my daughter was a calm baby who loved to smile and laugh. So I took her Binky at about 9 months.  Although, I know some parents who rely on old tricks like making it taste bad, give it away or even sabotaging. Do a search on how to make a pacifier taste bad and find out different tactics parents have used.  Gradually taking away can be effective if you can stay consistent. If all else fails ruin the pacifier and  buy a pair of noise cancellation earphones:)
